When it came to lookin’ good in classic American movies, filmmakers knew a surefire way how to do it: shine a spotlight on a cool and classy Cadillac vehicle. Few vehicles have gained as much fame from the movies as Cadillacs, where they have been driven by Hollywood’s greatest actors. Here are some of the most famous Cadillacs featured in movies.
The Big Wheel (1949)
The Big Wheel pays
homage to American auto racing with its main character, Mickey Rooney, gunning
for a career in motorsports. In a movie that heavily features cars, one stands
out in particular — Rooney’s sleek 1941 Cadillac Series 62 convertible coupe.
Pink Cadillac (1989)
The Big Wheel is
not the only film to feature a Series 62 convertible. Pink Cadillac refers to the same model. In this film, Clint
Eastwood — as a bounty hunter — pursues a woman on the run in her husband’s
Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
In Driving Miss Daisy,
one of Daisy’s cars is a white 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special.
This comedy involves the titular group employing a 1959
Cadillac ambulance to travel to all their ghostbusting endeavors.
Feel like a celebrity yourself when you stop in at ELCO Cadillac for a test-drive.
Not all Cadillac vehicles are meant for everyday use. One the rare occasion, a special one might be tucked away for very particular intentions. One such vehicle lives in Detroit, where it has been stored safely for decades when not in use. This special Cadillac is a white, vintage LaSalle hearse. Cadillac built this hearse in 1940, with two doors, three speeds, and a shifter in the steering column.
The vintage Cadillac LaSalle hearse is a gorgeous vehicle that has been dusted off for use in honoring some remarkable lives. Most recently, the LaSalle hearse was used to transport Aretha Franklin during her public viewing and memorial in Detroit. Aretha Franklin’s Cadillac LaSalle hearse has also been used in ceremonies for her father, Rev. C.L. Franklin; for David Ruffin, a member of Motown vocal group the Temptations; and Rosa Parks.
The Cadillac LaSalle hearse is owned by the Swanson Funeral Home, who purchased the vehicle back in 1958. The same driver typically drives the vehicle throughout the past 30 years, though on this particular event, it was O’Neil D. Swanson, the president of the funeral home, who took the wheel.
The Cadillac LaSalle is a beautiful and classic Detroit icon just as the Queen of Soul was a Detroit icon herself, so many viewers — including us at ELCO Cadillac — were touched to see this perfect fit come together for her public viewing.
Few brands have captured the American imagination quite like Cadillac. From film to literature, Cadillac vehicles have appeared in high places — and sometimes low ones — across the country’s cultural history. It might be in the rich world of country music that the Cadillac shines brightest.
We’re all big fans of both good ol’ Americana country and a classic Cadillac here at ELCO Cadillac, so here’s our three favorite country songs inspired by Cadillac vehicles:
“The Ride” by David Allen Coe
Mr. Coe is “thumbing from Montgomery” when a stranger picks him up in an “antique Cadillac,” and the rest is country music history. From its deep, Southern riffs to its old-fashioned country-gothic lyrics, American music doesn’t get much better than “The Ride.”
“One Piece at a Time” by Johnny Cash
What list of Americana music would be complete without an entry from the one-and-only Johnny Cash? In this beloved hit, he pines for a “long and black” Cadillac of his own so deeply that he sneaks the car out of the factory in which he works, you guessed it, “one piece at a time.”
“Cadillac Red” by The Judds
Ladies, if you’re “full of high octane,” this one is for you. The Judds’ song is an homage to a mysterious and powerful red-haired woman, lovingly called “Cadillac Red,” and her adventures with her female comrades behind the wheel of a Cadillac of her very own.
If you also love these songs and find that their longing for a Cadillac calls out to you, visit us at ELCO Cadillac and take a look at our showroom

The Cadillac XT4 debuted at the New York Auto Show in March, where it made waves thanks to its exclusive new SUV platform, along with a powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder twin-turbo engine that puts out 237 horsepower. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the XT4 will get a projected 30 mpg on the highway.
The XT4 starts an expansion of the Cadillac lineup, which will offer a new Cadillac every six months for the next three years. The XT4 is also the first vehicle to feature Cadillac’s new “Y” trim strategy, with two trims branching off from the base Luxury trim into Sport and Premium Luxury. With distinctive grille designs and other accents, these trims are made for two very different customer bases.
Cadillac aims for a more youthful market with the XT4, which is why the team that created it was made up of young designers. Young, single drivers who want utility but don’t need big passenger cars are a booming demographic that the entire auto industry is catering to.

Cadillac is a leader in the industry, especially when it comes to vehicle technology. Cadillac Super Cruise is an example of the brand’s incredible innovation, as the hands-free driving system will revolutionize the way we drive. Providing safety and comfort to drivers, Cadillac Super Cruise is great for virtually anyone.
The Super Cruise system works using a combination of software to serve as your eyes and ears. There are driver assistance features like Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, as well as OnStar® connectivity. Safety features can’t stand in for a driver; however, they can provide a level of safety like never before.
In order to highlight Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology during the 90th Academy Awards, the brand released an ad focused less on abstract ideas and more on the brand’s own technologies. “I kind of feel the public is tired of seeing these heavy, lofty ads,” explains Cadillac marketing director Renée Rauchut. “It just seems a little bit more honest right now in my opinion to focus on our products.”
The Super Cruise technology is only offered on certain CT6 models at the moment, although Cadillac has plans to expand the technology. This semi-autonomous system will also only work on certain divided highways, so there are a few criteria to meet before the technology will work.
Why wait for the automotive future to arrive when you can drive a Cadillac? Learn more about Super Cruise and the brand’s advanced features at ELCO Cadillac.
The 2018 Cadillac XT5 is back and better-than-ever for 2018. With a handful of new innovations and improvements, you’re bound to be impressed.
The biggest change for the 2018 model year is the XT5’s heated steering wheel. This is included on most trim levels and gives you the ideal combination of luxury and comfort.
The XT5 comes in four different trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum. All trim levels feature plenty of power, especially the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 310 horsepower. All-wheel drive comes standard on the Platinum trim level while an advanced front-wheel drive system welcomes you on other trim levels.
Style is unbeatable in the 2018 XT5, starting with features like swept-back headlights and bold LED running lights. On the inside, wood accents can be found throughout your cabin, making for a stylish interior.
Something else that’s new for the 2018 XT5 is a lighter body. The new XT5 has lost a few pounds, which gives it a sporty feel and more agility on the road than before. A fully independent suspension gives you extra help on the road, too.

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 officially replaced the Cadillac SRX, currently standing as the only crossover in the revered luxury brand’s lineup. While more crossovers are slated for release in the coming years, the Cadillac XT5 arrives with more features and a better design than the model it replaced. Here’s a closer look at how the Cadillac XT5 compares to the Cadillac SRX.
Like the Cadillac SRX, the Cadillac XT5 features seating for up to five passengers in a spacious cabin designed for the modern passenger. It’s also available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
However, many of the changes come down to what lies under the hood.
The Cadillac XT5 carries an upgraded version of the SRX’s standard engine. The new 3.6-liter V6 engine offers 310 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. That’s two more horsepower and five more lb-ft of torque than the Cadillac SRX offered.
The Cadillac XT5 also comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift. The now-discontinued Cadillac SRX featured a standard six-speed automatic transmission.
The Cadillac XT5 features a lightweight architecture that drops 165 lb. when compared to the weight of the Cadillac SRX.
