Snow Tires Vs. All-Season Tires

We know the statement is worn out, but winter really is coming. When you’re shopping for a new pair of boots for you, should you also get your car its own fancy winter footwear? Learn more about the difference between regular and snow tires and make a decision quick — news reports suggest that snow tires might be in short supply this season.

All-season tire advantages

As the name implies, all-season tires are a one-size-fits-all solution for your driving needs. The best examples of these types of tires are made to handle all types of weather with their multiple tread types and overall construction.

Besides being built to tackle all sorts of weather, the construction of all-season tires helps them last longer than a dedicated winter tire. Their versatility also means that you don’t have to seasonally change them out, like you do for snow tires.

Snow tire advantages

Snow tires — also known as winter tires — are specifically made for colder weather. They stay soft in lower temperatures for a better grip on the wet or icy ground, and the treads are specifically designed to handle slush and other winter precipitation. Whereas all-season tire treads can get packed with snow, these winter warriors are made to direct it off of the tire for better performance.  Not only do they provide better traction in the winter than all-season tires, they also were made to stop the vehicle better in icy conditions.

Unfortunately, the softer nature of winter tires means that warmer weather (and warmer pavement) makes them wear out quicker.

You should make a decision based on where and how you drive in the winter. Contact our service department if you have any questions.

Cadillac Connected Services and OnStar®: Accidents are terrifying things, but Cadillac and OnStar® are there to help if the worst should happen. We’re thankful that we have a team on our side with a Safety and Security plan subscription.

Super Cruise™: Don’t get us wrong, driving is great, but sometimes it’s nice to have a little help. We’re thankful for Cadillac models equipped with Super Cruise™ because, in the proper conditions, they can assist us and take the wheel on long highway drives to see family or have fun.

Cadillac Mobile Apps: Did you remember to lock the Cadillac? When’s the last time it had an oil change? We are thankful for the Remote Access plan and Cadillac Mobile Apps because they help us keep tabs on our favorite car, even if we’re not close together.

Ad-free music: Listening to music as we commute or head out on a road trip is fun, but commercials really ruin the mood in a car’s cabin. That’s why we’re thankful for the available SiriusXM® All-Access package and its ad-free music. It also has comedy and sports channels for something different along the way.
